I am sure by now you all know that every month, Birchbox give its subscribers the option to choose between a regular monthly box or a featured box. If you do not select any or reply with your choice, you’ll receive the monthly themed box by default. I personally love this option as it gives you control over which one you want to receive, you can choose featured box or a regular monthly themed box or alternate between the two as per your choice.
So last month when Birchbox sent out the”Sample Choice” emails, subscribers got the choice between selecting one of the four hair/skin products for their August box or the guest editor box (featured box). I choose the beautiful featured box which was curated by Nicole Richie of Candidly Nicole on VH1.

Birchbox X Candidly Nicole August 2015 (Featured box) – Review.
This month the Birchbox arrived little early. I think featured boxes come earlier than the regular one. Also, you receive an email about the box being shipped, which for obvious reasons increases the excitement. I mean who wouldn’t love getting a cute hot pink package full of beauty goodies in their mail box. Each box comes with a card detailing the items included with their price (full size) and some tips on how to use them.
Birchbox X Candidly Nicole August 2015 edition contains the following items:
dr. brandt® microdermabrasion skin exfoliant – 0.25 oz/7.5 gm ($9.75)
dr. brandt is a pioneered skin care brand created by celebrity dermatologist (Late) Dr. Fredric Brandt. The products are high quality, effective and not to mention expensive as it retails for $78 (but what can you expect when it comes from a dermatologist, right?). The sample has generous quantity for a month’s trial considering its an exfoliant which is supposed to be used 1-2 times a week. As of now i have used it once and found it not too abrasive and left the skin soft. Full review after a month.
LAQA Cheeky Lip Tint in “Humble Brag” – 0.03 oz/1 gm ($6.67)
Love it when a product can be used in more ways than one. A beautiful blushed pink color which looks great on lips and cheeks equally, but love it more as blush. Its creamy, blends in giving a beautiful glow. What i do not like is the size, i feel the crayon has a little quantity.
OPI Venice Collection “Amore at the Grand Canal“ – 3.75 ml ($2.38)
As i stated in some of my previous posts, I love nail paint minis. I find them really cute and easy to carry around while travelling. It was already posted in Birchbox’s August video that we will receive one of the four OPI Venice Collection nail paints, and i was so hoping to get the red one, and I did. Love reds- bold and beautiful. And an OPI never disappoints.
Rene Furterer Lissea Leave-In Smoothing Fluid – 0.5 fl oz/15 ml ($3.69)
Since last month i received mostly hair sprays, i was delighted to find something different. This one is leave-in smoothing fluid designed to protect against hair styling. Its kind of mandatory for a leave-in hair product to smell good and this one smells great. You can use the product on damp or dry hair. Really looking forward to this one.
St. Tropez Gradual Tan In Shower Lotion – 1.6 fl oz/50 ml ($5.97)
Wasn’t so excited to see a self tanner in my box. I am tan/olive skin already so it kind of is a waste for me. Though the quantity is pretty generous for a sample. This one is in shower tanning lotion. Should I give it a patch test to know if it actually gives a golden glow?
Birchbox X Candidly Nicole also contained
A introductory note from Nicole and a card promoting her show “Candidly Nicole” with a fun “fill in the blank” note on the back.
Fab n Pretty Review:
Birchbox X Candidly Nicole came in a beautiful floral designed box with 5 luxury samples. This box is well curated as it covered skin care, hair care and makeup and all the products are from different categories. In terms of quantity, it’s a really good box, considering it should only have samples. Except for the self tanner, I loved all the other items in the box.
Great color selection from Laqa and OPI- a pink lip & cheek and a red nail lacquer respectively. I am glad that I choose the featured box for this month, my last month’s selection was the regular monthly themed ” Go Bold” box. I like switching according to my preference.
A few samples are from the brands that i have never tried before so i am excited. Also, the box is so beautifully designed, a collectible in its own right and can be converted to a great storage option.
Fab n Pretty Verdict: Pretty good. This box has a value of approx $29 which is almost three times what I pay for the box, which is great. In last 3 months, I have never been disappointed with any box, rather I am kind of impressed. With the selection of brands they bring and with options like selecting a sample item for the box or choosing featured boxes it’s amazing. Yes, i didn’t like the tanner, but rest four are great products.
Is it still value for money?
